Academics
Welcome to Rutland Intermediate School (RIS), where we serve students in Grades 3 through 6 in a caring, supportive, and engaging learning environment. With approximately 550 students, we focus on meeting the needs of every child through positive behavior supports, strong classroom communities, and a variety of academic supports.
We use Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Responsive Classroom practices to create a safe and respectful school culture. Our staff also uses a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to provide extra help to students who may need it—both academically and socially.
RIS follows a Standards-Based Grading approach, which means we measure student progress based on how well they are mastering grade-level skills by the end of the year. Students receive report cards three times a year, and families are invited to Parent-Teacher Conferences in both October and March.
