Administration
Principal Kerry Coarse
Kerry Coarse started her career at Rutland City Public School in 1996. She began as a special educator at
RIS before transitioning to NW as a second-grade teacher, from there she went back to special
education at RHS before moving into administration in 2014 as Coordinator Of Support Services. In 2018
she was appointed as Assistant Principal at RIS prior to becoming Principal at RIS in 2020. Kerry earned
her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and Special Education from Castleton State
College. She went on to complete two Master’s degrees, one in Special Education and one in
Educational Leadership also from Castleton State College/Castleton University. She continues to learn
and grow by participating in additional relevant coursework and conferences. Kerry resides in Rutland
Town with her husband and two sons.
Assistant Principal Jane Richards
Jane Richards is a graduate of the Rutland High School Class of 2006. She continued her educational career at the University of Vermont, earning her Bachelor of Science in Education degree in Elementary Education. Jane worked in central Vermont for eight years, teaching second, third, and fourth grade. While in central Vermont, she earned her Master’s degree in Education and her Principal endorsement from Southern New Hampshire University.
In 2018, she returned home to Rutland to be closer to her family and work as a teacher at Rutland Intermediate School, where she taught in grades three through six. In 2022, Jane left RCPS to begin her journey as a school administrator at Clarendon Elementary School. She is excited to be back in Rutland City, working with the fabulous students and staff on curriculum and data at RIS. Jane enjoys spending time with her family and friends in her free time, traveling, and being a lifelong learner.
Assistant Principal Jenna Whitehorne
Jenna Whitehorne started her career in Rutland City Public Schools in 2003. She began as a para educator at Rutland Middle School before transitioning to Rutland Intermediate School as a special educator. During this time, she obtained her Master’s degree in Special Education from Castleton University. Jenna earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Johnson State College.
She went on to complete her certification as a Certified Trauma Practitioner through Starr Commonwealth as well as her Director of Special Education licensure. She continues to evolve as a lifelong learner by volunteering during her free time, reading, and attending a variety of conferences. In her spare time, she enjoys biking, spending time in nature, and traveling. Jenna resides in Rutland Town with her family.
