The 6th Grade students at RIS participate in a 6 day program at the Rutland Armory called Starbase Vermont. The students go to the armory (and even the Rutland Airport) once a week for 6 weeks. During this time the staff in the Starbase program, with support by the students’ classroom teachers, addresses academic standards in the areas of science, math, and technology.
The activities provide an exciting hands-on, activity-based curriculum involving STEM, personal development, teambuilding, and healthy choices. This year our students will be participating in the Starbase program during the winter months, some classes start in early December and others will begin in late January. Each student has the opportunity to safely launch a rocket that they have made
and colored, as well as keep at the end of their program. Students have a great time, and look forward to this adventure!
