Academic Overview

Rutland Intermediate School (RIS) covers grades 3-6, has a great faculty and staff, a dedicated administrative team, and a fine academic and social skills instructional/ learning program.

Grade 3 has 9 highly qualified faculty members instructing 181 students. A typical school day includes at least 1 hour of mathematics, 1.5 hours of language arts / reading, integrated social studies and language arts for approximately 45 minutes, and a host of other activities comprising a school day that begins at 8:20 AM and ends at 2:40 PM. For 45 minutes each day every RIS student has one of the following: physical education, art, music, library/media, or technology lab. Also happening each day for all grade level students during E-Block (Enrichment Block) is orchestra (we have the only elementary orchestra / strings program in Vermont!), additional choral music time, enrichment services, special education services, speech and language services, counseling services, and supplementary / enhanced academic learning time. E-Block is 45 minutes each day too!
